OBVIGO Cap Care Guide
How to Clean and Maintain Premium Fabrics
The best way to extend the lifespan of a premium cap is to protect it from harsh chemicals and heavy water contact, which can ruin the garment's structure. Especially on uniquely textured fabrics like gabardine, suede, or technical softshell, standard washing methods can distort the shape and damage the material. Here is our comprehensive guide to both deep stain removal and quick daily maintenance to keep your OBVIGO cap looking brand new.
What You Need
- Micronized (finely ground) White Meerschaum Clay (Sepiolite)
- A soft-bristled garment brush (or a clean, soft toothbrush)
- A clean paper towel
- A high-quality microfiber cloth
1. Deep Stain Removal: The Meerschaum Clay Method
For tough, oil-based stains (such as skin oils, makeup, machine oil, or food stains), the most natural and effective solution is dry cleaning with Meerschaum Clay. Thanks to its highly porous structure, this natural clay absorbs fluids and oils multiple times its own weight directly out of the fabric fibers without causing any damage.
-
Step 1: First Response (Blot the Excess Oil)
If the stain is fresh, gently press a clean paper towel onto the area to absorb excess oil before applying the clay. Caution: Never rub or scrub the towel against the fabric, as this will push the stain deeper into the weave.
-
Step 2: Masking with Clay
Pour a generous amount of meerschaum clay powder onto the cap, completely covering the stained area. Press down very lightly with your finger to help the clay settle into the fabric or suede fibers.
-
Step 3: Waiting Period (Let the Magic Happen)
Leave your cap in a dry environment for at least 2 to 4 hours to allow the clay to fully draw out the oil. For deeper or older stains, leaving the clay on the cap overnight (about 8–10 hours) will deliver the best results.
-
Step 4: Dusting Off
Once the time is up, turn the cap upside down and gently shake off the loose clay powder. Use your soft garment brush to sweep away the microdust trapped in the fabric pores. Always brush with gentle strokes in the direction of the fabric's weave.
2. Quick Daily Maintenance
If your cap does not have heavy oil stains and you just want to refresh it from daily dust, environmental residue, or light sweat marks, you don't need to use clay. You can perform a quick daily clean in seconds by gently wiping the exterior surface and the inner sweatband with a slightly damp (never soaking wet) microfiber cloth. After wiping, simply let your cap air-dry at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
Important Pro-Tips for Longevity!
- For Dark-Colored Caps: On dark gabardine or suede fabrics like black, navy blue, or charcoal, the clay may leave a faint, whitish dust residue. This is a purely physical reaction and does not harm the fabric. To eliminate this completely after brushing, simply wipe the surface with a slightly damp microfiber cloth or use a burst of compressed air (or a hair dryer on the cold setting) to clear out the pores entirely.
- Preserving the Shape: To preserve the stiff support panels inside the brim (visor) and front structure of your OBVIGO cap, be careful not to over-bend, wring, or distort the cap's original shape during any cleaning process.
